Swedish massage
Swedish massage enhances the function of joints and muscles, improves circulation and general body tone, and promotes mental and physical release of fatigue. In persons who because of injury, illness or age are forced to remain inactive, massage helps return venous blood to the heart and so eases the strain in this vital organ. It also encourages lymph movement to help hasten the elimination of wastes and toxins.
Deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions.")
Will A Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?
It shouldn't hurt, but it's likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish massage. You should always feel free to speak up if the pressure is too much for you.
How Fast Will I Get Results With A Deep Tissue Massage?
It's important to be realistic about what one massage can achieve. Many people ask for more pressure, thinking that if the therapist just pushes hard enough, they can get rid of all their knots in an hour. This just won't happen. In fact, undoing chronic knots and tension built up over a lifetime is best achieved with an integrated program that includes exercise, work on your posture and ways of moving, relaxation techniques and a regular program of massage. Finally, while deep tissue is certainly valuable,
Greetings! My name is Brittany D. VanDervoort and I am a certified massage therapist. I graduated from Great Lakes Institute of Technology with a golden achievement award in September 2007. I have been practicing massage long before graduation and I have continued to do so into the present time.
I have been trained in a few different modalities: swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, pregnancy, geriatric, infant, aroma therapy, reflexology, sports, acupressure and along with those comes cryotherapy and hydrotherapy.
The massage that I practice is therapeutic. My massage is based on the individual needs of the client. I use the information given from the client and incorporate, based on my knowledge, what will best help the body heal itself. It is my goal to do the best I can for the body to achieve relaxation and jump start the healing process for a more comfortable life.
